“not for a moment did You forsake me”

Time is crunched today. Laundry, nails, dishes, store-bought cookies, and time with friends are all leaping off my to do list. There are not enough waking hours between now and homecoming to get everything done to perfection, but as you might imagine, I find this to be a wonderful problem!

And blogging was actually not on the list today–not for a second. But in it all, I want to share my morning with those of you who have followed along this year. I’ve been awake since before 6am, and I even took more melatonin then in an effort to snag an extra hour or two of sleep. Didn’t phase me. Maybe I’ll squeeze in a nap somewhere today.

For now, however, I’m lingering in the bed, just holding onto Jesus.

“You are my hiding place and my shield; I hope in your word.” Psalm 119:114

Right back there this morning. And my heart is so full of evidence to that truth from the last 365 days. So full, in fact, that in the last 5 days I’ve compiled a list of more than 500 gifts God has given to me in Stephen’s absence. I hope to share many more of them in the next few weeks, but a brief assortment here:

#3 – Juliet for loving on

#8 – meeting Cat only days into the year

#55 – Zumba!

#61 – Valentine’s Day with Cat & my cousin, Ashley

#110 – first anniversary! (and together!)

#234 – introduced Tash to “Call Me Maybe”

#345 – Village Church Vinings women’s retreat

#346 – retreat carpool buddy, Jessica

#475 – last Sunday without Stephen

#503 – butterflies

#505 – invite to Garnette’s wedding

He has been so faithful, so good, so rich toward us.

A new online Army wife friend recently wrote that the answer to “How do you do it?” is that this is a calling. Funny how that has only been revealed as it ends, but it could not be more true. We have been called to this lifestyle for this season of life, and God equips those He calls. He does not call the equipped, because who then could He use? It is not me or Stephen who have “done” this; it is the One who calls us. His calling requires obedience and alone gives great Joy.

He who calls you is faithful; he will surely do it.” 1 Thessalonians 5:24

So as I sit here honestly flabbergasted today, the song He has given for ending this season is on repeat. Would you join me in rejoicing? In praising Jesus? Let’s sing our hearts out today–I sure will!

You were reaching through the storm
walking on the water
even when I could not see
in the middle of it all
when I thought You were a thousand miles away
not for a moment did You forsake me
not for a moment did You forsake me

after all You are constant
after all You are only good
after all You are sovereign
not for a moment will You forsake me
not for a moment will You forsake me

You were singing in the dark
whispering Your promise
even when I could not hear
I was held in Your arms
carried for a thousand miles to show
Not for a moment did You forsake me

and every step every breath you are there
every tear every cry every prayer
in my heart at my worst
when my world falls down
not for a moment will You forsake me
even in the dark
even when it’s hard
you will never leave me
after all

not for a moment will You forsake me
